This site is dedicated to all things Volkswagen Transporter. Split Screens, Bay Windows, Campmobiles, Westys, Trucks, Panelvans, and Kombis... I love them all.
A 1967 13 Window Deluxe Bus made the cut for the Winter 2009 Season of Bullrun on Speed TV.

I just caught the VW Bus episode of Overhaulin' last night... very cool episode and the result was awesome. I cringed when they cut two extra windows into the roof, but I got over it pretty quick. The theme of "a concept Van from the '60s" was cool and I think it came out great. If you haven't seen that episode of Overhaulin' do what you can to see it.
Update - It sold... if you bought it and are going to restore it, send pics!
I'm not trying to turn this into a "vw bus for sale" site, but I will help bus owners sell their rides (for free, by the way) if they want me to and ask politely or if I really like your vw bus and want to help you find it a good home.
I actually found this Double Cab Truck for sale on Cragslist and contacted the owner, Alan, to get some pictures. My ideal ride is a Double Cab Split Screen, but since we are in the midst of the '66 13 Window Deluxe restore, it just doesn't make sense to acquire this ride. So I thought I'd try to give him some extra exposure to make sure the Double Cab finds a good home. If you want to contact Adam, go to his "1966 duel cab vw transporter - $5000" Craigslist listing and contact him that way.
The ride has no engine and has been sitting in a warehouse for 12 years
If you want me to list your bus, give me a shout at helpmesellmybus @ ilovevwbuses.com. Send me a description, some good quality pictures, and a way for potential buyers to contact you.
My special lady friend was driving by John's Cars in Dallas the other day and said "I think I found a bus." That is all it took... off to Dallas in search of said find. Sure enough, sitting inside of a razor wire-surrounded compound, home to John's Cars and 100's of Jaguars (the specialty of the house) is a Bay Window bus. It looks to be in decent shape. Lots of stickers on the back including an "Unmarked Police Car" bumper sticker on the back window!
While we were out and about, pretty close to the bus we sought out to photograph, we stumbled upon this slick looking Split-Screen 13-Window Deluxe. The owner wasn't anywhere to be found, so no story on it, but it looks to be in great shape and I love the paint scheme.
So we just picked up two buses from a field the other day. They were just sitting out there rotting and a tip from a reader led us out there.
The first bus is a 1969 Bay Window (pictured below). Nothing too special about it, really. Some rust, doesn't run... great for parts. We'll be inventorying it in the next week or so to see just what on it is usable for parts. If you are in need of anything on a '69 Bay, please contact us at parts [at] ilovevwbuses [dot] com.
The second bus is the whole reason we picked them up. Its a 1966 Deluxe bus (her name is Sandy). The back story is that it has been parked since 1985, the last time it was registered. We got a title with it, have info on all of past owners, and it likely has less than 100k miles. Having been parked after less than 20 years on the road, and the odometer reads only 97k, there is a chance that it truly has only 97k miles. Of course, it could have 397k.
It needs all of the rubber replaced, and one window was busted out, but it has very little rust, the body is straight, has the original VW keys, and, oh yeah, IT RUNS! We tuned it up, replaced some stuff, but it runs... purrs like a kitten. And, except for one tail light, all of the lights work! That means, at least for now, she's a keeper. We'll redo the brakes, check the rest of the drivetrain, get some new tires, and a few other things. Other than that, she's ready to go! I like the petia look of it... polish the chrome, shiny wheels and we're done!
If you are as crazy as we are about buses, you'll dig this video... us hauling the '66 out of the field.
I have it on good authority that Smitty the Splitty will be decked out in illuminated peace symbols next Friday 11/28 at the Fort Worth Parade of Lights. The organizers of Mayfest will be using Smitty to advertise Mayfest 2009, also in Fort Worth. I hope to have a story on here soon about Smitty, including pictures from the parade.
We were driving to the store last night and my special lady friend spotted this fun Campmobile. I was starting to get worried, I had not seen a bus in public for nearly a week. More pictures of the bus are on the Flickr account.
Of course, at some point, I will probably have pictures of all the buses in this city, but until then... I'm on a mission. Even if I already have a picture, I still like to see them out and about. However, if you know of a bus that I should get a picture of, or have other tips for me, check out this post.
Taken in December 2006 in Anchorage, Alaska. Its definitely a later model bus, post 1967. I can't tell much more from this and it was too cold to get out and take a closer look.
