Just a quick note to say Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or a Pleasant Generic Winter Holiday to you and yours. We just got started here at ILoveVWBuses.com in the last part of 2008 and have some really cool stuff planned for 2009... see you next year!
So we surpassed 240 views on the Flickr photostream and 130 on this blog. Huge numbers? Well, I'm not bringing the interwebs to its knees, but pretty cool considering I haven't done much to promote it. In fact, the only thing I've done is send the Flickr link to the Fort Worth VolksFolks. I think they distributed internally to their members. Other than that, people have found the Flickr pics and this site organically... they searched Google or Flickr and just found our stuff. Cool!
Remember to spread the love that is ILoveVWBuses.com... tell your friends, send pics and stories. I want this to be something more than just me posting pics of buses I find. Although that is pretty fun.
Thanks!
Got some tips or Photos you want to share?
Message us on Twitter @ILoveVWBuses, message us on Flickr (vwbuses) or send an email to tips [at] ilovevwbuses [dot] com if you have photos to share, a tip on a VW Bus for sale or one decaying in a barn somewhere, or info on an upcoming VW event. Our home base is Arlington, Texas, but contact us no matter where you are located.
If you do share photos, please include as much information as possible. At least say when and where the pic was taken. If you can include the owner, the model year, even better. The best? Information on when the owner got the vehicle, what they've done to it since they've had it, etc.
Peace out, yo!
My special lady friend put together this killer logo for the site. I wanted to share it with the world. I need to figure out how to change the layout of this blog to incorporate it. It has all of the elements I wanted in a logo for this gig. The main thing was that it have some hand-drawn elements (the heart, the splitty in the heart, and the VW logo. Killer.
Soon... you'll be able to buy a bumper sticker with the logo on it at my Cafe Press shop.
Awesome!
In 1994 I bought an Orange and White 1979 VW Bus (very similar to the one here and pictured to the right owned by Greg Dawson) from the wholesale lot at the car dealership where I worked. I paid roughly $600 for it. It was not the newest, cleanest, or even the most reliable car I've owned, but it is the only one that I truly regret selling. The fact that I sold it for $300 just a couple of months after I bought it certainly doesn't help the regret factor.
Ultimately, however, it wasn't the money... that bus was awesome. It was me. It defined what I want out of life. And this website is my attempt to bring that back. I truly love VW buses. All types. From the later-model bay windows, to the early split screen trucks, if its a Transporter and 1979 or older, I love it.
In late 2006 I started taking pictures of VW Buses as I saw them... as they are in nature. On the road, parked at the store, covered in snow on the side of the road, etc. I've also started attending car shows and local meetings where the mighty VW Bus is on display. That Flickr photo stream eventually morphed into this site. On ILoveVWBuses.com I will celebrate VW Buses, and their owners. Bus profiles, owner profiles, event listings, pictures and stories from those events, etc. There are a ton of bus sites out there, but I think ILoveVWBuses.com will be unique and hopefully bring all of those sites together. No competition here, man... its the bus that binds us.
This is going to be a fun ride and I'm looking forward to taking it with you.
Peace!
