Two Tarrant County VW Meetings on Tuesday 12/9/2008

The Fort Worth VolksFolks are meeting tomorrow night, 12/09/2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Spring Creek Barbeque   located on the corner of Camp Bowie West (Hwy 80 / 580) and Las Vegas Trail on the west side of Fort Worth. I'll be there and am bringing some vintage VW (buses, bugs, notchbacks, etc.) with me.

The North Texas VW Club is meeting at 7:00pm. at J. Gilligan's 400 E. Abram in Arlington. (817) 274-8561 Table service, Quiet, Good food choices. It's located between, S. Cooper and S. Collins.

Welcome Two Buses to the Family!

So we just picked up two buses from a field the other day. They were just sitting out there rotting and a tip from a reader led us out there.

The first bus is a 1969 Bay Window (pictured below). Nothing too special about it, really. Some rust, doesn't run... great for parts. We'll be inventorying it in the next week or so to see just what on it is usable for parts. If you are in need of anything on a '69 Bay, please contact us at parts [at] ilovevwbuses [dot] com.




The second bus is the whole reason we picked them up. Its a 1966 Deluxe bus (her name is Sandy). The back story is that it has been parked since 1985, the last time it was registered. We got a title with it, have info on all of past owners, and it likely has less than 100k miles. Having been parked after less than 20 years on the road, and the odometer reads only 97k, there is a chance that it truly has only 97k miles. Of course, it could have 397k.

It needs all of the rubber replaced, and one window was busted out, but it has very little rust, the body is straight, has the original VW keys, and, oh yeah, IT RUNS! We tuned it up, replaced some stuff, but it runs... purrs like a kitten. And, except for one tail light, all of the lights work! That means, at least for now, she's a keeper. We'll redo the brakes, check the rest of the drivetrain, get some new tires, and a few other things. Other than that, she's ready to go! I like the petia look of it... polish the chrome, shiny wheels and we're done!

This Guy Really Wants a VW bus!

He is selling advertising ala the Million Dollar homepage, for $0.20 per pixel. Looks like he has raised $740. Not too shabby. I was thinking about doing things to raise money on this site, and I still might, but that would be selling actual stuff like bumper stickers, t-shirts, etc.

Good for him... I hope he gets a bus.

Apology from Arlington Police Department

Remember when I got a ticket for "running a red light" from the Arlington Police Department? Well, they not only dismissed the ticket but I just received a nice apology letter from them. How often does the Police Department apologize? Pretty cool.
